Description
Need fabulous violin posture children’s lesson? Fabulous violin posture, balance and alignment are pivotal to our children’s progress.
Unsurprisingly, I find that one teaching strategy isn’t always enough to ensure freedom of movement in set-up, combined with good violin posture and alignment.
This is why I am giving you two strategies in one pack!
So, the first strategy is a gorgeous interactive video, Line Up Your Violin/Viola. The melody is based on the children’s song, Wind the Bobbin Up.
Indeed, this video actually works really well combined with the second strategy, the good Violin Posture Routine, (an unaccompanied song with clear musical cues and simple and memorable steps to an excellent violin hold.)
Amazingly, Line up your violin interactive video works on coordination. Young children are challenged to keep their violin aligned and balanced whilst following a set of instructions designed to promote crossing the midline.
Start with the good Violin Posture Routine sung acapella to transition the instrument smoothly from rest position to playing position.
Next, immediately start singing with your instruments in playing position. We point with our right hands (still unaccompanied and without the video):
“Point to the ceiling, Point to the floor, Point to the window, Point to the door. Pluck your strings together, 1, 2, 3! Everybody pluck the G/D/A/E”
Furthermore, use pizzicato to pluck the string to the beat. Practice starting and stopping together.
To start with, the children sing and copy the pointing actions, checking that they have good violin posture.
After Everybody pluck with me, the children pizzicato on the string you choose to the beat.
