Kids playing the violin joyfully loving learning

Don’t just take my word for it!

“Laura – I wanted to put a little post up to say THANK YOU for creating the wonderful Stringosaurus Resource Hub!! I have had SO much fun using this in my early years violin lessons… I have a number of students aged between 3-5 years old and the Stringosaurus material is just perfect for this age group (and older!), as well as working incredibly well along the Stringbabies approach. It’s been fantastic to have fresh resources so easily accessible in the hub and it’s definitely helped me to keep lessons fun and engaging.
A few of the songs and games I’ve used so far are Funny Kinda Reindeer, Laugh and Cheer, Nativity Strumming and The Dino in my Kitchen Rhyme and the Puppy Dog Arm Swings.
I’ll definitely be using even more Stringosaurus material next term – I’m particularly excited about the new open string play-along! Thank you.”

The Stringo Story

Eleven years ago, I had an adorable pre-schooler named Olive. (She’s still pretty adorable-ish as a teenager in fairness). I wanted to give her the BEST early childhood violin education, but in South Wales, the options for learning a violin at that time for little ones were as scarce as a dinosaur sighting!

At my job with local music services, I was battling quite a few challenges. My students were starting their lessons at a younger age, parents were unable to be present in the school environment, and kids were quitting faster than I could say “Twinkle, Twinkle.” Managing behavior in group classes was like herding cats, and the kids were about as interested in my materials as they were in broccoli. Honestly, I felt like a total flop.

Determined to turn things around, I spent the next eleven years creating a fun and engaging curriculum centered around a dinosaur character called Stringosaurus. Because, let’s face it, what kid doesn’t LOVE dinosaurs?

This curriculum was all about whole-body learning and was designed to be simple, enjoyable, and achievable for students.

To make sure the curriculum hit the mark, I dove into early childhood development and the psychology of how kids learn.

Nine years into this adventure, I was invited to present at the Nova Scotia Music Educators’ Association Conference. Seeing teachers so eager to soak up new approaches to early childhood string teaching was incredibly motivating.

Since then, I’ve served as Vice President of AUSTA WA, presented at national and international conferences like AUSTA, ASME, and ESTA, and adjudicated here in Australia. I currently run a bespoke early childhood string program at a private Anglican community school in Perth, Western Australia.

Laura has taught in England, Wales, and Australia, and while school systems differ, teaching violin pedagogy is based on fundamentals which remain consistent across different environments.

You can use this resource for whole classes, small groups, or individual lessons.

According to several experienced Suzuki teachers, it integrates perfectly into Suzuki classes. It also complements other methodologies and tutor books, filling gaps and reinforcing vital concepts.

Plus, it’s a complete resource on its own, setting up beginners beautifully, even those who might struggle ordinarily.

We currently have violin teachers using Stringosaurus from the USA, UK, Europe, Australia and Asia.

In our experience, this is extremely rare and usually happens when a child’s needs aren’t fully understood or met.

The great news is, with an annual subscription, you’ll have direct access to Laura and our community of violin educators. We encourage you to share your challenges and successes with us so we can all grow and learn together.

Laura will work with you to solve these challenges because, by combining our experience and wisdom, we are stronger!

Early childhood, in this instance, 3-7 years as a general rule of thumb. You could certainly adapt resources for older beginners too.
